| Summer Term 2011 Classes are here! Hurrah! Summer Term classes are here. Classes during Summer Term are set up differently from the rest of the year. During Summer Term each class meets for a week, Monday through Friday, from 10 am - 12n, here at Seven Stars Studio in inner Southeast Portland. This gives the artists time to go into the projects more deeply than is possible during a one-day workshop. Here are all the fabulous classes: |

June 27 - July 1: Introduction to Drawing Representational drawing is a fundamental artistic skill, and like most other skills, is something that can be learned and must be practiced to develop proficiency. This week the artists will be using a variety of drawing tools and materials while they learn the basic elements of drawing, how to see them and use them. The artists will also learn how to add weight, depth, and texture to their drawings. An excellent class to start a fabulous summer of art! |

July 4 - July 8: Understanding Color Color is one of the basic elements of art, and even though we are surrounded by it, it can be confusing. Do you know the difference between a tint, a tone, and a shade of a color? What exactly is a tertiary color, or a complementary color? This week the artists are going to play and experiment with color as they find out the answers to these and other colorful questions! |

July 11 - July 15: 3-D Art This week the artists will be working in three dimensions as they create sculptures, mobiles, and a rather fascinating project using mirrors. These playful constructs are a great way to explore the artistic principles of space and balance! |

July 18 - July 22: Take Center Stage Theatrical art helps create an environment and set the mood for a performance. This week the artists will choose a scene from a favorite story, and the create a table-top sized, 3-dimensional stage setting along with little puppets to act out the scene. Performing arts and visual arts together in one wonderfully dramatic week! |

August 1 - August 5: Papier Mache Critters Pigs with wings? Hippogriffs? Stomping monsters? Papier mache has been used by artists for centuries, and this week the artists will design and create their own fabulous fantasy critters. Messy art at its finest! |

August 8 - August 12: Three-fold Art This week the artists will be creating triptych (three-fold) pieces, three smaller pieces that fit together to create on larger piece. Think of gothic arches and Byzantine altar pieces, only much more fun and light-hearted! |

August 15 - August 19: Making Books It is rather satisfying to be able to design and create a book, and then fill it with unique ideas and dreams. This week the artists will create beautiful handmade books using several different book making techniques. The perfect way to express yourself from cover to cover! |

August 22 - 26: Take a Chance on Art What shall we do today in art class? At the start of each class this week, we will open one secret envelope to reveal our art lesson for the day. Mystery and intrigue at Seven Stars Studio! |

Maximum of 8 students (ages 7 - 14 years) per class. Minimum of 2 students . |

The fee for each classes is $125.00.
Multiple class special: After the first class, the fee for each subsequent class is $100.00 |

Payment is made to Seven Stars Studio at the beginning of the term. |
